Personal Goal Setting
Are you achieving your full potential and meeting targets?
Personal goal setting has many benefits, whether it be work related or otherwise. Many of us start the year with resolutions and good intentions but can very quickly run out of steam. Working with a professional coach to identify realistic goals and targets is more likely to deliver results.
Personal development starts with personal goal setting
Setting goals with the help of SMART objectives assists individuals with gaining clarity on what they want to achieve on a personal level. An executive coach encourages individuals to focus on their personal development, identifying the goals required for developing skills to improve their chances of career success.
We then support individuals to remain focused on the actions needed to achieve their goals.
Benefits of personal goal setting
Self-improvement builds confidence as well as other skills that individuals can use throughout their career and in life generally. It not only makes a difference to the individual but to the people around them such as work colleagues, and employers. Using a leadership or personal development coach also supports leaders to inspire their team, creating a culture of self-improvement.
FAQs on setting personal goals
Yes. Setting personal goals does work. Research has shown that individuals focused on personal growth will achieve more and while having goals is important, success levels are even higher when goals are written down as part of a structured process.
Setting goals is just the start. They can’t be achieved without an individual taking ownership and being committed to achieving their goals. An executive or personal development coach provides the support and feedback to help individuals to retain their focus. We don't tell you what to do, but explore what holds you back or gets in your way.
Personal goal setting needs to be backed up by accountability and having someone who supports individuals on an ongoing basis helps with this. I recommend regular check-ins to see how individuals are progressing throughout their personal development, to maintain momentum and keep moving forwards.
Whilst it is not critical to have ongoing support, it does help to improve results if you are able to dedicate space and time to concentrate on your personal development, away from distractions and other work-related activities.
